Ayur means life, Veda means science = Ayurveda, The science of life |

Ayurveda is the Vedic system of health care developed in India over 5000 years ago. This ancient ‘science of life’ is health and not disease specific and takes into account the patient's entire being - body, mind soul and spirit. This science of life teaches that if humans do not live their lives according to the right principles of the body and mind, there will be an imbalance and both the body |

and mind causing sufferings and diseases. |

Though it originated thousands of years ago, Ayurveda’s logical, commonsense approach to health and living, combined with philosophy, psychology and spiritual guidance could not be more appropriate for present-day society, where so many people suffer from stress-related conditions which conventional medicine has been unable to cure. It offers natural, herbal remedies, which counteract imbalances in the body and can successfully treat most health problems encountered today. |

Prevention & Cure |
|
| |
Ayurveda has an armory of physical treatments from medication to massage, yoga, cleansing and detoxification programs, and remedies for disorders such as diabetes, high BP, infertility, impotence, arthritis, hypertension, gastro-intestinal problems, and a whole barrage of chronic illness and infectious diseases. |

Unlike anti-biotic medicine, Ayurveda does not kill these organisms but remedies the problem by restricting their growth and ultimately rid them from the body. |

Eye Diseases - (Netra Rogas) |
|
| |
From among the "Ashtangas", the eight ‘Angas’ (part) dealt by the Ayurveda, Urdhwanga Chikitsa is most important, since it deals with eye, ear, nose, face and head. 'Uthamanga' (prime part) of human body is said to be the Head. In Shalakya Thantra there are also descriptions of about 76 eye diseases, 28 ear diseases, 31 nose diseases. And many of the illness affecting human eye still have no proper remedies even in modern medicine like Retinitis Pigmentosa. But certain remedial measures mentioned in ancient Ayurvedic Grandhas, particularly in Thaliyolas (palm leaves), have unfortunately not yet been completely examined. |
