Ayurvedic Eye Treatment

Traditional Way of Treatment
| Principles of Ayurveda Eye Treatment | Diseases & Cure

Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital offers cures based on Ayurveda. Over the centuries, our family has been a repository of specialised knowledge in Ayurveda, especially in Shalakya Tantra, one of the eight branches of Ayurveda that deals with diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting those organs of human body located above the neck. Sreedhareeyam is totally dedicated in eradicating blindness.
Along with traditional knowledge, the hospital is backed by a team of highly qualified and experienced physicians who are complimented by a team of scientists and research scholars. Today we have a sophisticated research wing, which is constantly involved in developing formulations and medicines as per authentic processes as stipulated in ancient texts. These formulations are tested, quantified and proven through modern clinical methodology. An advanced laboratory is in operation, assisting in quality control, testing and research of medicines.
We are also involved in the invaluable task of converting precious Ayurveda texts from ancient palm leaf to modern digital format storage devices. This will help in preserving ancient medical science for the benefit of future generations.

Today, millions of people in our country are deprived of God-given gift of vision. It is indeed disheartening to witness the dreadfully slow pace in the service of such deprived people in the noble task of restoring their eyesight and improving quality of their loves. This is in spite of quite a number of organizations working in this area.
It seems that destiny has indeed given me, as a specialist in Ayurvedic "Netra Chikitsa" (Ophthalmology), a great opportunity to make a small contribution to the noble task of alleviation of darkness. Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital & Research Centre was born out of my intense passion to provide 'Vision for every one'.
Ayurvedic ophthalmology or 'Netra Chikitsa' as it is known is a well documented branch of Ayurveda, the ancient holistic medical science. Numerous Ayurvedic documents enumerate 70 to 90 eye ailments. My family, the Nelliakattu Illom, has traditionally been specialists in Netra Chikitsa.
In my experience, the scope of Netra Chikitsa is substantial. Most cases that come to us would invariably have undergone treatment by exponents of other disciplines of medical science. But I have to point out with some pride here that we have been able to deliver good results.
It is indeed my devoted feeling that Goddess Dhanwanthary, the Goddess of healing, has blessed Sreedhareeyam wholeheartedly. I am indeed grateful to so many of our patients for their implicit faith in us.

Eyes - windows to the world

Vision- the priceless gift from God, blessing us to enjoy the beauty of this world. Eyes, being the most delicate organ in the human body, need special care. Unfortunately, many people do not take good care of their eyes. They take this God-given gift for granted. In course of time they do harm to their eyes due to carelessness and by not taking necessary steps to protect the eyesight, eventually leading to premature blindness or fatal damages.

The human eyeball measures just around 1 inch (25mm) in diameter. It is so powerful and versatile that we can see stars that are billions of light years away, as well as the tiniest speck of dust.

Today's life style and work atmosphere along with the use of modern appliances and gadgets for work and entertainment, like televisions and computers, are taking a heavy toll on the general health and well being of eyes.
People tend to forget that eyes too need exercise as well as rest for its proper functioning. Working for hours before computer or watching television for a prolonged time and that too without enough blinking is very dangerous to eyes. It makes the eyes dry and scrappy. Today, a large section of children are myopic, the major culprit for this being television.
Ayurveda Netra Chikitsa.

Ayurveda explains perfectly the structure, functioning and treatment of ailments of eyes in Shalakya Tantra, one of the eight branches of Ayurveda. It offers a detailed study of etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases that affect organs above the neck i.e., head, ears, nose, eyes, throat etc. Of the three main classics of Ayurveda, 'Susrutha Samhitha' provides the most profound knowledge on this branch of treatment.

Acharya Susrutha was the greatest proponent of this science. He could be hailed as the pioneer surgeon in medical history who systematically and elaborately dealt with the anatomical structure of the eye. The prognosis made by him on Aveitis and Glaucoma is regarded as exceptional.
